Declare

Students may declare the minor after they have completed at least three approved Applied Language Studies minor courses including the core course, UGIS 120, and no later than the term before their Expected Graduation Term (EGT) as posted in the “My Academic” tab in CalCentral. Please review the approved course list prior to submitting a declaration form.

Applied Language Studies Minor Declaration Form

Your minor declaration submission will be processed in approximately 3-5 business days. Business days are Monday-Friday and do not include weekends or holidays. Please check your CalCentral around that time to check if the minor has been added to your records. If it has been longer than 5 business days and you do not see the minor on CalCentral, please follow up with Michelle Herrera, the Applied Language Studies Minor Coordinator, at michellerh@berkeley.edu.

In Your Final Semester:

If your application to declare the minor is approved, you will need to submit a Completion of L&S Minor Form during your final semester/EGT. The form is available below and on the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising website. Please email the document to Michelle at michellerh@berkeley.edu.

  • Completion of L&S Minor FormPlease be sure to have your major advisor sign page 2 of the Completion of L&S Minor form acknowledging that you are sharing no more than one class between your major and the minor.
  • Transcripts (Transcripts printed through the “Cal Central” system are acceptable. Please choose the printing option that includes your name). If you are taking courses for the minor in the semester you plan to graduate, print a copy of your current class schedule as well.
  • A list of 5 courses (1 core and 4 electives) you wish to use to satisfy the Applied Language Studies Minor, as well as the semester and year the courses were taken. You must identify any course that overlaps with any of your majors or other minors. Only one course may overlap.
